Influencers: What are the five categories that have entered the “microscope” of the tax office

Theinfluencers have now also come under the “microscope” of the tax office, as many of them do not declare the income from the shops and the products they promote.

The social media team of Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) has started sweeping controls, utilizing modern methods artificial intelligence.

According to a publication, the investigation is retroactive and can reach up to posts made two years ago. The strategy is as follows: Identify influencers who appear not to have much income to the tax office, at the same time that on social media they present a luxurious life with expensive hotels, trips and cars.

The categories of influencers

In Greece, influencers are ranked according to the potential profits they receive:

  • NanoInfluencers: From 1,000 to 10,000 followers are estimated to make between 20 and 100 euros per post.
  • MicroInfluencers: From 10,000 to 50,000 followers, with profit from 30 to 200 euros per post.
  • Mid–TierInfluencers: From 50,000 to 500,000 followers, earning from 80 to 650 euros per post.
  • MacroInfluencers: From 500,000 to one million followers, with profit from 150 to 1,500 euros per post.
  • MegaInfluencers: Over a million followers, with a profit of over 1,500 euros per post.

Other objectives of the tax

It is recalled that at the beginning of the year, on the occasion of an ultra-luxurious wedding that was organized and “flooded” with posts on the internet, the AADE proceeded with numerous checks on the contributors of the event, leading it to uncover a huge case of tax evasion.

Specifically, through the information detected on social media by the special software and the AADE auditor team, which scans social media, the auditors began to identify one by one, the contributors to the wedding and the reception that followed.
