Women in Tech: DYPA and HUAWEI expand their collaboration for women’s employment and reducing the digital divide
The sealing of the cooperation expansion DYPA – Huawei was formalized at a special event, held on Monday in Thessaloniki, the Public Commander of the Employment Service (DYPA), Spyros Protopsaltis and the senior vice president Huawei Europe, Selina Wen. The extension of DYPA’s cooperation with the technology company Huawei, with a new, second cycle of the “Women in Tech” action, aims to upgrading the skills of the workforce and especially unemployed women, as well as reducing the digital divide in our country.
Monitoring the needs of the market, the current trends of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the goals set by the E.U. for the “Digital Decade” until 2030, DYPA undertakes initiatives to strengthen the digital maturity of citizens, in order tosupport their inclusion in positions with quality characteristics and to widen the talent pool for businesses that report difficulty finding appropriately qualified workforce.
The program, which is to be implemented in the near future, will be addressed to 500 unemployed women and will include the thematic sections “Basic Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Skills” and “Soft Skills”.
The commander of DYPA, Spyros Protopsaltis, said: “Two out of three unemployed are women and DYPA constantly invests in new, targeted actions for their labor reintegration. The new cycle of the “Women in Tech” program with Huawei is part of this framework. Our goal is to implement programs that empower unemployed women with new skills and prepare them for professional opportunities in specialties that are in high demand in the labor market. “Women in Tech” is going to open up new employment prospects for the 500 women who will have the opportunity to upgrade their digital skills and enrich their resume with knowledge that is in demand by companies in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector. DYPA continues to collaborate with technology giants to reduce the digital divide and meet the needs of businesses for suitably qualified personnel”.
The senior vice president of Huawei Europe, Selina Wen, said: “Huawei has been present in Greece for 20 years. With the commitment “in Greece for Greece”, we also contribute to the evolution of Greek society. The development of new talents is for us the most important social project. Building on last year’s successful collaboration with DYPA, we optimized the course design, upgraded the program and believe that this year’s retraining and upskilling program “Women in Tech” will encourage women to advance their careers as talented workers. We strongly believe that Huawei’s initiative will inspire more and more women to pursue their career goals and succeed. So let’s work together to create a better future for Greece, where every woman will have the opportunity to contribute and thrive in the digital age“.
