EQUALS-EU Hackathon: Women’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Marathon

Share

EQUALS-EU Hackathon. Despite significant progress in recent decades, inequalities between men and women in the labour market persist. Women workers in the EU are paid less than men, and in some sectors, such as science and technology, the employment rate of men is much higher than that of women.

Things that are troubling

According to data recently announced by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), in 2020, women in the EU were paid 15% less than men. In Greece, the available data refer to 2018 and show that the corresponding percentage stood at 10.4%.

At the same time, sectors such as technology are still "male-dominated". In 2018 in the EU, 59% of men worked, on average, as scientists and engineers, compared to 41% of women. In Greece, in 2020, only 16.4% of women declared skilled professionals employed in the field of information and technology.
