Big Pi II: New €50 million fund for investment in tech startups

Big Pi, a venture capital firm, has announced its second fund, Big Pi II, for €50 million. The new fund targets startups with deep tech products «deep technology» (deep tech) and strong intellectual property. As noted in the announcement, the company's first fund has the same focus.

Big Pi II will invest at the seed stage. The amounts will range from EUR 1 to 3 million euros, the company said in the announcement.

The portfolio companies will have research and development teams in Greece and will target the global market.

Big Pi's first fund is already a success, with companies such as TileDB , η Intelligencia and Orfium showing significant growth. In total, nine portfolio companies have already received funding from investors such as Intel , η Lockheed Martin and the University of Oxford, while one company has been sold to a large multinational conglomerate.

At Big Pi II key investor is the Hellenic Development Investment Bank (EATE, formerly TANEO) with funds from National Recovery and Resilience Plan "Greece 2.0" through the "InnovateNow" programme. They participate, even, 25 private investors, including, banks, industry executives and founders of innovative businesses.

During the signing of the agreement between EATE and Big Pi Ventures, present were. Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis, Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Yannis Tsakiris, Deputy Minister of Development and Investment and Mr. Nikos Mantzoufas, Director of the Special Coordination Service of the Recovery Fund. From EATE, Dr. Haris Lambropoulos, President and Antigoni Liberopoulou, Managing Director and from Big Pi Ventures, partners Markos Veremis, Aristos Doxiadis & Alexandros Eleftheriadis and operating partner, George Saliaris-Fasseus.
