The terms and conditions for the support of theatres, music venues, dance halls, concert halls, performance venues, cinema operators and distributors of cinematographic works A total amount of EUR 20 million euro for 2021 provides for a Joint Decision of the Ministers of Finance, Labour and Social Affairs, Culture and Sports and State. The JMD was published in the Government Gazette (B'6231/24.12.2021).
The aim is to support businesses and professionals in these cultural sectors from the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The main "tool" is the subsidy of vacancies in theaters, cinemas, etc.

"The extension of the position subsidy measure is part of the broader protection grid developed by the Greek government to shield the cultural and creative sector and its workers. Until today more than EUR 450 million euros have been channelled into the field of Culture by the State. These funds have been made available during the pandemic."
It is noted that following the publication of the decision, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs proceeds on Tuesday 28 December with a first payment of EUR 2.6 million. Euros to support theatres, music stages, etc. for the period January-November 2021. This will be done after the completion of the necessary checks.
The main provisions of the EIS ( €20 million support )
a) For theaters, music stages, dance theaters, concert venues and performance venues. A fixed amount of 10 euros per spectator/ticket is required, regardless of the ticket price. The payment concerns a total maximum number of 24 performances per month, as follows:
- For in the period January-May 2021. It is intended for the aforementioned businesses that were left closed by order of a public authority and meet the specified conditions (legal licensing, turnover drop in 2020 of at least 20% compared to 2019), payment of an amount corresponding to 20% of the total spectator seats/ticket of each show, as they arise from the operating license.
- For the period June-December 2021. Intended for businesses that they worked for certain periods of time during this period, the payment to the producer of the performance corresponding amount to 40% of the total spectator seats/tickets of the respective show. In case closed business the corresponding amount is paid to the company that manages the room to 20% of the total spectator seats/tickets.
b) For cinema businesses. A fixed amount of 4 euros per viewer/ticket, per screening and up to 40 screenings per month is foreseen, as follows:
- For the period January-May 2021. A total amount corresponding to 10% of the total spectator seats/tickets is paid to the company that manages the hall.
- For the period June-December 2021, for businesses that operated within this period, a total amount corresponding to 20% of the total spectator seats/tickets is paid. For businesses that remained closed for periods of time within the aforementioned period, a total amount corresponding to 10% of the total spectator seats/tickets is paid.
c) For motion picture distributors for the period January-December 2021. Financial support covering 40% of the difference in the reduction of turnover in 2020 compared to 2019.
