As of March 31, 2020, the OAED has started paying the amount of the two-month extension of unemployment benefit and continues to those who are subsidized unemployed who expired the unemployment benefit in January 2020.

Based on the announcement issued by the OAED, it is announced that, in the context of the emergency government measures to support society and the immediate and effective relief of the unemployed, it was decided to extend for two months the payment of the regular unemployment subsidy, the long-term unemployment subsidy and the unemployment benefit for the self-employed, to those subsidized unemployed who expired or the subsidy will expire within the first quarter of 2020, as announced by Υπουργείο Εργασίας & Κοινωνικών Υποθέσεων.
Method of payment
As for the payment method, it will be completed automatically, through direct deposit of the amount corresponding to the two-month extension to their bank accounts and no action is required from the beneficiaries, such as application, presentation of supporting documents, etc.
To whom and when the benefit extension will be paid
As to whom and when the benefit extension will be paid:
- For those subsidized unemployed whose benefit expired in January 2020, the one-off payment of the amount corresponding to the two-month extension will start from March 31.
- For those subsidized unemployed who expired their benefit in February 2020, the one-off payment of the amount corresponding to the two-month extension will be completed in April 2020.
- For those subsidised unemployed persons whose benefit expired or will expire in March 2020, the first additional month of subsidy will start to be paid in early April 2020 and the second additional month of subsidy will start to be paid in early May 2020.
Amount of payment for extension of benefit
As regards the amount to be paid, the two-month extension of the allowance corresponds to the following amounts:
- Beneficiaries of the regular unemployment benefit will receive a total of up to 798.5 euros (up to 399.25 euros per month), an amount increased by an additional 10% for each dependent member of the unemployed beneficiary.
- Beneficiaries of the self-employed unemployment benefit will receive a total of up to €720 (up to €360 per month).
- Beneficiaries of long-term unemployment benefit will receive a total of up to €400 (up to €200 per month). It is reminded that beneficiaries are only those who remain unemployed during the period corresponding to the extension.
For example, subsidised unemployed persons who started working after the end of their benefit will receive a reduced amount, in proportion to the period during which they lost their entitlement to the benefit.
