The European Union Space Programme Agency (EUSPA) has announced the launch of the myEUspace competition. This year's competition follows the success of previous years in a wide range of activities.
The space competition is aimed, among others, at entrepreneurs, startuppers and students who wish to develop and commercialise innovative solutions. Solutions that can make use of the data and services of the EU Space Programme.
How can space benefit smart mobility, agriculture and geomatics? What role do quantum technologies play? Solutions and business ideas take off with the myEUSpace competition.
Direct and free access to data and services based on European satellite systems have enabled the creation of innovative applications in areas such as the Internet of Things, precision agriculture, robotics, drones, etc. The precise positioning offered by Galileo combined with high-resolution data and images from the Earth monitoring system, Copernicus, with the simultaneous use of quantum technologies should set the bar for European innovation on a new trajectory.
With prizes totalling €1 million, the myEUspace competition looks forward to leveraging data and services from the European Space Programme. It is part of the European Commission's Cassini initiative and aims to create disruptive commercial solutions and applications. Solutions that will help us face emerging societal challenges and serve different sectors. From smart mobility, agriculture to sustainable production and consumption, smart cities, health, leisure.
Account
«In recent years, EUSPA has managed to create a strong ecosystem of space start-ups and SMEs. Businesses that offer innovative ideas, such as automatic lane marking solutions or drone atmosphere monitoring applications, most of which are currently being rapidly developed," says Rodrigo da Costa, EUSPA Executive Director. "With initiatives such as the myEUspace competition, we support space entrepreneurship. At the same time, we are contributing to the Union's digitalisation efforts and the implementation of the ambitious European Green Deal," concludes da Costa.
The competition #myEUspace promotes entrepreneurship
" EUSPA 's MyGalileoSolution competition gave our product a significant boost and helped us break new ground. Competitions like this are ideal for start-ups. Our victory in the MyGalileoSolution gave us more visibility, expert support and the financial ability to expand. Our product is an autonomous marking robot for 10Lines parking lots. Therefore, tracking positioning via GNSS is of major importance to us. We encourage all EU start-ups to take advantage of the myEUspace and upgrade their businesses." This is what Janno Paas, CTO of 10Lines and a member of the winning team of the MyGalileoSolution 2020 competition, says.
With more than 50 prizes, the myEUSpace competition consists of two independent and parallel rounds
Round 1 - From idea to prototype aims to transform a theoretical idea into the prototype/trial version of a product.
Round 2 – From prototype to product/market entry – aims to evolve a prototype or test idea into a minimum viable product (MVP).
The competition seeks solutions where the integration of EU Space Programme data and services can revolutionise the following six thematic areas:
Move Me Smart: Smart mobility solutions with all modes of transport to improve efficiency and sustainability and increase their safety.
Space Up My Life: Consumer solutions such as mobile apps and any other solution that uses space data on health, gambling, sports, leisure, tourism and everyday life.
Our Green Planet: Innovative solutions for environmental challenges, sustainability in our lives, consumption and production.
Map My World: Innovative spatometry solutions that will shape the future of geomatics, rural design and smart cities.
Farming By Satellite: Technological solutions for the management of agricultural production, the improvement of crop yields, the reduction of environmental impact and the optimization of the food chain.
Dive In Quantum: Innovative solutions applying quantum technologies (computing, detection, simulation, encryption, etc.). Solutions that enhance downstream space applications.
Registrations
Aspiring startups, innovators and experienced entrepreneurs can apply here, by 15 November 2021 (23:59 CET). The ideas will be evaluated in terms of their relevance to the EU Space Programme, their innovative approach, their market prospects, their feasibility within the limits of current technology and, finally, their operational organisation. The competition provides for various prizes and prizes at different stages of the competition.
