egg – enter•grοw•go: Forty teams and 115 young entrepreneurs in the 10th cycle

Forty (40) entrepreneurial teams will be hosted and supported in the 10th cycle of egg-enter-grow-go. A business acceleration program in Greece, designed and implemented since 2013 by the Eurobank , in cooperation with the Corallia Unit of E.K. Athena .

The 115 young entrepreneurs who emerged after the evaluation of the nominations submitted was completed, will be hosted and supported by the programme for 12 months. The aim is their business development.

Strategic targeting of the egg-center-grow-go, which from the beginning of its operation has already supported more than 1.000 young entrepreneurs, is to support, also with this new cycle, the dynamic and competitive Greek innovation ecosystem. In this year's submission process strong quantitative and qualitatively positive characteristics dominated with enhanced competition, a high level of maturity of business plans in many productive sectors of the economy and great interest from a number of research teams.

It is indicative that this year 84% -out of all the applications that were selected from the first phase of evaluation- of the business plans submitted, managed to pass to the third (and final) evaluation phase. From it emerged and the 40 ultimately qualified business groups. This percentage is the highest rate recorded in the history of egg. In addition, one (1) out of two (2) teams that joined the 10th cycle is registered in the National Register of Start-ups Elevate Greece. At the same time, six (6) out of 10 already have, as the implementing body of their business plan, a company that has been established. It is also worth noting that, The percentage of women participating in business groups is 26%. A percentage that exceeds the average in Greece (20%), as well as the corresponding percentage in Europe (15%). The results justify the strategic planning of the new cycle of the Egg Start-Up Platform. Central directions are the encouragement of numerous business groups in cutting-edge sectors, characterized by a high degree of innovation, the strengthening of the interconnection of university research with entrepreneurship and the attraction of business groups from the wider region of Southeastern Europe, which was also the main goal of egg. It is indicative that five (5) business groups out of 40 come from Cyprus.

Which sectors stood out at Egg-enter-grow-go

In the 10th round of egg-enter-grow-go, the sectors that attracted the most interest were:

  • Innovative Medical Applications & the wider field of Health Sciences (22%)
  • New Energy Technologies & Renewable Energy Sources (12%)
  • from 7% are occupied by the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sectors with emphasis on Internet of Things and Emerging Financial Applications & FinTech Technologies
  • but also Innovative Tourism Applications

In addition and specifically for the tourism sector and with the completion of the evaluation of the applications of the relevant call of the General Secretariat for Research & Development Innovation of the Ministry of Development & Innovation Investments, the business plan was approved of the companies of the Cooperative Innovation Formation in the Tourism - Culture sector with the help of Eurobank and managed by the egg-center-grow-go. The participating companies secure funding of 2.5 million euro. The aim is to modernize the tourist and cultural product of the country through:

  • the adoption of software technologies and digital content
  • Internet Technologies of Everything
  • Smart mobile applications
  • and other high-tech applications
