Commission: €30 million in state aid for the fur and leather industry

Scheme of up to EUR 30 million euro to support businesses in the fur and leather sector approved by the Commission. This aid was approved in order to deal with the problems caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The scheme was approved under the State aid Temporary Framework. The first approved by the Commission on March 23, 2022 and modified on July 20, 2022. Under the scheme, support will be given in the form of direct grants. The scheme will be addressed to in companies of all sizes operating in the fur and leather sectors and which are affected by the current crisis. The purpose of the scheme is to: (i) to ensure sufficient liquidity to eligible enterprises for which the Russian market is an important export destination;(ii) to maintain their financial continuity during the crisis. The Commission found that the Greek scheme is in line with the conditions set out in the Temporary Crisis Framework. particularly: (i) the amount of individual aid per beneficiary will not exceed the limit of EUR 500 000 provided for in the temporary crisis framework;(ii) the aid will be granted no later than 31 December 2022. The Commission concluded that theThe Greek regime is necessary, appropriate and proportionate to remedy a serious disturbance in the economy of a Member State, in accordance with Article 107(3)(b) of the Treaty TFEU and the conditions laid down in the temporary crisis framework. On the basis of the above, the Commission approved the aid measure in accordance with the EU State aid rules. The non-confidential version of the decision will be published under case number SA.103457 in the State Aid Register on the Commission's competition website once any confidentiality issues have been resolved.
