Agrotourism Subsidy
Agrotourism is a form of soft tourism that is steadily growing in Greece. It is a special form of rural tourism encompassing all activities connected with agricultural production and the cultural environment of rural areas — including farming activities, local products, traditional cuisine and local gastronomy — as well as accommodation and catering services in spaces that may or may not be integrated with agricultural facilities.
Agrotourism benefits the local community, helps sustain the production of traditional products, preserves crafts that would otherwise disappear, revives customs and traditional events, and safeguards architectural heritage. It also connects isolated areas with large urban centres and opens new life prospects for local young people.
Agrotourism gives visitors the opportunity to discover rural areas, farming activities, local products, traditional cuisine, daily life and the cultural heritage of each region — all with respect for the environment and tradition.
A tourist accommodation of up to ten rooms with a maximum capacity of 40 beds appears to be the ideal size for a professional farmer starting their own agrotourism unit.
