“Agriculture with Intelligence”: The Distribution and Support Centers in the 13 Regions are fully operational​​

Fully equipped, staffed and open to the public are now the fifteen (15) Distribution and Support Centers (KDY) which are located in the 13 Regions of the country, according to the schedule set within the Project “Farming with Intelligence” – Digital Transformation of the Agricultural Sector.

The overall objective of the Project is to create a technology platform and infrastructure to support the modernization of the Agricultural Sector, which will address the problems and allow the provision of personalized environmental data and updates for open crop plots, with utilization of modern IT and communications technology. During its implementation, the planning, supply, installation and configuration of a logistical infrastructure will be carried out, on which the collection of data from points of agricultural holdings throughout Greece will be based, the processing of these data from subsystems, in a way to promote intelligent information at the level of a plot of land as well as the formulation of a national agricultural policy.

Supporting role of the CDCs in the Project

The network of Centers Distribution & Support (KDY) operates as an integral part of the Project, alongside the technological ecosystem through which data is obtained from selected plots (e.g. Data Collection Stations, Unmanned Aircraft Systems [UAS], open and high-precision satellite data, etc.) but also the technological platform which is the central pillar for the implementation of digital transformation policies at the Greek and European level.

The network of Distribution and Support Centers that has been set up in all the Regions of the country, has “physical” information kiosks for the wide public, and at the same time provides support in the more specialized. In general, the KDY play a pivotal role in the planning and realization of the installation of the required Data Collection Stations in selected plots of land throughout Greece. Additionally, from the KDY the direct supply of the installation workshops of the SSRs is carried out, the timely treatment of issues related to their operation and maintenance after installation, as well and the coordination of flights of SmiEA.

The Project “Agriculture with Intelligence” – Digital Transformation of Agricultural Sector aims to design and implement the solution from the ground up in Greece, in order to fully cover the peculiarities of the Greek agricultural sector. It also looks forward to the radical treatment, with a digital sign, of the existing structural – and not only – problems of the sector of the transition of the European economy to the digital age (EU Digital Strategy).

For this reason, it utilizes many different types of data, such as soil and atmospheric, recorded by the Panhellenic infrastructure of stations, satellite, such as the Copernicus data of the European Space Agency, data derived from on-site observations and measurements, but also other sources. All of the above is gathered in the central technological infrastructure where it is maintained, processed using smart algorithms and available in a form directly usable for all stakeholders in an open system aimed at improving agricultural production and developing entrepreneurship in the agri-food sector.
