Thessaly: Two new income loss coverage programs for farmers
Two new programs to support flood victims farmers in Thessaly will soon announce the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, as the competent minister, Lefteris Avgenakis, told representatives of farmers in the areas around Karla, with whom he met for three hours.
The first program
One program will be about covering the loss of farmers’ income, for as long as it takes, as 180,000 hectares of arable land are covered with water.
“From the first moment we were committed, that’s why in a short time we will be able to announce this program, as well as a program for those whose fields are not flooded, but cannot produce“, said Mr. Avgenakis, in his statements after the meeting.
The second program
The second program will concern the coverage of the loss of income to farmers whose fields are unsuitable for cultivation, as they have deposited on them carried materials and silt.
In fact, for the removal of the transportable materials, a new program of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, with the support of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, is expected to operate immediately.
As Lefteris Avgenakis said, the prime minister’s order is to do everything to support the affected farmers in Thessaly.
“From the first moment of the disaster, we invested in consistency and reliability”, emphasized the Ministry of AAT, noting that the programs will be announced when they are complete and have received the relevant approvals from the EU. “The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is building relationships of trust. This road is long and we will be together with proposals and discussions”.
The farmers
The farmers recognized that the Ministry of Rural Development and Food has been consistent in its announcements so far, while they raised a series of partial problems which arise over time.
It is recalled that, already, 123.5 million euros have been paid as compensations for livestock and plant production, while to ELGA have been transferred to cover losses of 260 million euros.
As pointed out, the ELGA offices in Larissa operate an information office, where farmers can receive clarifications on the compensations they have received, or record possible errors.
At the same time, a number of measures are running, such as 5.2 for livestock replacement and stable reconstruction, the expanded – and with the runners-up – Improvement Plans, as well as compensation fishermen or even those who were not insured by ELGA, always with the aim of strengthening the effort to reconstruct the agricultural production in the Thessalian plain.
