{"id":9054,"date":"2023-01-17T11:03:53","date_gmt":"2023-01-17T11:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev-espa.summerize.io\/launch-of-the-international-open-innovation-competition-the-pella-challenge\/"},"modified":"2023-08-23T14:29:00","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T14:29:00","slug":"launch-of-the-international-open-innovation-competition-the-pella-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/espa.io\/en\/launch-of-the-international-open-innovation-competition-the-pella-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Launch of the international open innovation competition The Pella Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/espa.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/enarxi-tou-diethnous-diagonismou-kainotomias-the-pella-challenge-1024x724.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p><strong>The launch of the international open innovation competition The Pella Challenge<\/strong>, implemented by <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interfima.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Interfima<\/a>\n<\/strong>, and supported by <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmiscience.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PMI Science<\/a>\n<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Purpose of the competition  <strong>The Pella Challenge<\/strong> is <strong>support scientists, research institutions and <a href=\"https:\/\/espa.io\/en\/business_type\/new-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">start-ups<\/a> from the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa)<\/strong> the creation of work ideas and scenarios and <strong>participation in the process of hatching new business schemes<\/strong> to exploit research results that appear to be able to positively develop the market.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>In addition, The Pella Challenge aims to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>promoting new partnerships<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>strengthening cooperation between researchers<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>the exchange of knowledge between the business and academic world<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The aim <strong>is to move from scientific discovery to business application.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Applications are accepted in areas such as:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Innovative solutions for sustainable magnetic materials:<\/strong> Focus on alternatives to replace ferromagnetic materials with new, ideally non-metallic materials, which should be biodegradable or compostable or at least have an improved impact on the environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Systems and applications for age prediction:<\/strong> Emphasis is placed on determining the biological\/chronological age of an individual. The proposed solution should work seamlessly and be scalable. The technology could be based on visual, sensory, auditory, biomarkers, movement, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Individual element identification\/discrimination systems for devices consisting of fixed and detachable parts:<\/strong> Focus on technologies and applications for the detection and classification of detached-consumable elements under high temperature conditions. It should be possible to reduce the system. In addition, if the proposed system requires the same consumables, these should be low-cost.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The above fields are presented quite generally. The purpose of this open call is <strong>not to exclude ideas, theories and applications<\/strong> that may be related and applied in the above cognitive environments.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-&#x3C4;&#x3BF;-&#x3C0;&#x3C1;&#x3CC;&#x3B3;&#x3C1;&#x3B1;&#x3BC;&#x3BC;&#x3B1;-the-pella-challenge-&#x3B8;&#x3B1;-&#x3C5;&#x3BB;&#x3BF;&#x3C0;&#x3BF;&#x3B9;&#x3B7;&#x3B8;&#x3B5;&#x3AF;-&#x3C3;&#x3B5;-&#x3B4;&#x3CD;&#x3BF;-&#x3C3;&#x3C4;&#x3AC;&#x3B4;&#x3B9;&#x3B1;\"><strong>The Pella Challenge programme<\/strong> <strong>will be implemented in two stages<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>During the 1st stage, candidates <strong>will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of experts<\/strong> to elaborate the ideas and adapt them to specific applications. <strong>The selected ideas will be prepared<\/strong> to be presented to PMI Science representatives. <strong>Following the results of the 1st stage, the selected ideas will proceed to the 2nd stage<\/strong>. During this 2nd stage, <strong>a detailed work plan will be developed<\/strong> and the teams will start working on the proof-implementation of the idea and the development of a prototype.<\/p>\n\n<p>After the completion of this stage, <strong>additional funding and investment opportunities may arise<\/strong> for the projects that will be deemed interesting by PMI Science. The international innovation competition <strong>The Pella Challenge<\/strong> is supported, among others, by:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The region of Central Macedonia,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Alexandria Innovation Zone,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH),<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>the THESS INTEC technology park, and<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Amazon Web Services (AWS) by providing free cloud computing services for the teams selected to participate in the program.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-&#x3C0;&#x3BF;&#x3B9;&#x3BF;&#x3C2;-&#x3BC;&#x3C0;&#x3BF;&#x3C1;&#x3B5;&#x3AF;-&#x3BD;&#x3B1;-&#x3BA;&#x3AC;&#x3BD;&#x3B5;&#x3B9;-&#x3B1;&#x3AF;&#x3C4;&#x3B7;&#x3C3;&#x3B7;\"><strong>Who can apply<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Individuals, groups of researchers, high-tech application professionals, engineering researchers from research centres, universities and other scientific institutes<\/strong> as well as high-tech companies from the EMEA region are eligible to apply. We are looking for candidates (teams and individuals) with a strong scientific and technical background and with a proven ability to design and implement a high-quality project in one of the directions of the program. The desired background of the candidates (but not limited to) is: <strong>Chemistry, Materials Science, Biology, Engineering, Innovation and Technology Management, Physics, Mathematics, etc<\/strong>. Scientific knowledge (academic qualification) as well as experience in carrying out research projects are an additional advantage&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-&#x3C4;&#x3B1;-&#x3BF;&#x3C6;&#x3AD;&#x3BB;&#x3B7;-&#x3C4;&#x3B7;&#x3C2;-&#x3C3;&#x3C5;&#x3BC;&#x3BC;&#x3B5;&#x3C4;&#x3BF;&#x3C7;&#x3B7;&#x3C2;\"><strong>The benefits of participation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Possibility of cooperation under market conditions with a multinational organization<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ability to transfer technology from the laboratory environment to the actual market and promote this achievement<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Participation in corporate \u2013 operational bootcamps<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Access to free computing services (cloud credits)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Funding and investment opportunities of the idea and technology<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-&#x3C0;&#x3CE;&#x3C2;-&#x3BD;&#x3B1;-&#x3C5;&#x3C0;&#x3BF;&#x3B2;&#x3AC;&#x3BB;&#x3B5;&#x3C4;&#x3B5;-&#x3B1;&#x3AF;&#x3C4;&#x3B7;&#x3C3;&#x3B7;-&#x3B3;&#x3B9;&#x3B1;-&#x3C4;&#x3BF;-&#x3C0;&#x3C1;&#x3CC;&#x3B3;&#x3C1;&#x3B1;&#x3BC;&#x3BC;&#x3B1;-the-pella-challenge\"><strong>How to apply for the programme<\/strong> <strong>The Pella Challenge<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>Those interested should fill in the Online Application and upload the proposal.
