The cooperation includes the creation of a <strong>new training programme for small and medium-sized tourism enterprises<\/strong>. The program will be implemented in collaboration with the <strong>Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).<\/strong> At the same time, Google announced the <strong>Funding of EUR 1 million Dollars<\/strong>  from Google.org. The aim is to support <strong>organisations that help social enterprises<\/strong> in Greece, with an emphasis on sustainability and ecotourism.<\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong>transition<\/strong> of the Greek tourism industry to a more <strong>sustainable and environmentally friendly development model<\/strong> is a <strong>key priority<\/strong> in addressing the inevitable consequences of the climate crisis. According to new research conducted by the  <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itep.gr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Institute of Tourism Research and Forecasting<\/a>\n<\/strong> (FORTH) on behalf of Google and  <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grhotels.gr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hotel Chamber of Greece<\/a>\n<\/strong>, <strong>three out of four hotel owners<\/strong> consider the implementation of sustainability practices <strong>critical for the future of their business<\/strong>. 79% express interest in <strong>obtaining sustainability certification<\/strong>. However, <strong>only 41% consider their level of knowledge<\/strong> about sustainability practices to be <strong>satisfactory<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>On the basis of the above findings, the <strong>new training program<\/strong> of the Ministry of Tourism and Google, in collaboration with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), <strong>it will launch in April and will be available at no cost.<\/strong> Its aim is to support small and medium-sized tourism enterprises in the <strong>their path to sustainable development.<\/strong> Key features of the program, which is <strong>new pillar<\/strong> of Google&#8217;s initiative <strong>\u00abGrow Greece with Google\u00bb<\/strong>, is :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>effective communication by businesses of their environmental actions<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>the creation of a sustainability strategy<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>obtaining a sustainability certification<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>the investigation of funding sources for small and medium-sized tourism enterprises<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>learning best practices for water and <a href=\"https:\/\/espa.io\/en\/c\/energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">energy saving<\/a> and rational waste management<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-&#x3C7;&#x3C1;&#x3B7;&#x3BC;&#x3B1;&#x3C4;&#x3BF;&#x3B4;&#x3CC;&#x3C4;&#x3B7;&#x3C3;&#x3B7;-1-&#x3B5;&#x3BA;&#x3B1;&#x3C4;-&#x3B5;&#x3C5;&#x3C1;&#x3CE;-&#x3B1;&#x3C0;&#x3CC;-&#x3C4;&#x3B7;&#x3BD;-google\"><strong>Funding of 1 million euros<\/strong> <strong>from Google<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>In addition, Google.org, which is the charitable arm of Google, offers <strong>Funding of EUR 1 million Dollars<\/strong> to support organizations <strong>that help social enterprises run by underrepresented communities<\/strong> and which focus on sustainable solutions and <strong>ecotourism<\/strong> in Greece. This support comes at the right time. According to a Euromonitor survey, <strong>over 70% of travellers around the world<\/strong> were more interested in <strong>sustainable travel options<\/strong> in 2021 (compared to 2020). They even stated that now <strong>they seek to continue them.<\/strong>  Through a careful selection of projects from one or more beneficiaries, which will be announced later this year, Google.org funding will ensure that social entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities and remote areas of Greece  <strong>have the opportunity to participate in the creation of effective solutions that will benefit their communities. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-&#x3B2;&#x3B1;&#x3C3;&#x3AF;&#x3BB;&#x3B7;&#x3C2;-&#x3BA;&#x3B9;&#x3BA;&#x3AF;&#x3BB;&#x3B9;&#x3B1;&#x3C2;-&#x3C5;&#x3C0;&#x3BF;&#x3C5;&#x3C1;&#x3B3;&#x3CC;&#x3C2;-&#x3C4;&#x3BF;&#x3C5;&#x3C1;&#x3B9;&#x3C3;&#x3BC;&#x3BF;&#x3CD;\"><strong>Vassilis Kikilias, Minister of Tourism<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>&#8220;Our strategy to shift the country to a sustainable tourism model, in addition to government actions to achieve sustainability goals, goes through similar partnerships like the one we are announcing today with Google.
